Where do feral cats come from?
Domestic cats are not native to the wild. All of the feral cats you see running around town can be traced back to someone's pet. Not everyone is a conscientious pet owner who gets their pets spayed and keeps them indoors. Some people, particularly in rural areas, have "outside" cats but don't really consider them as pets. Consequently, they don't provide them with the same level of care and concern as they do for "inside" pets. The outside cats my be getting fed on a regular basis but otherwise, they are on their own. All it takes is one male and one female and you can have 3-4 litters of kittens (of 5-6 kittens each!) in one year. Just from those two original cats, you now have 26!
